Café Mangii in Khar sports a charming ambience with premium styled Italian all day dining restaurant. Adorned with intricate brick-walls, plush antique wood décor and the endless number of contemporary glow bulbs radiating from chandeliers, Café Mangii surely portrays rustic Italian architecture at its best.
Known popularly for their wood fired oven pizzas and other authentic Italian delicacies, this time they celebrated their culinary talent with a sizzling monsoon menu.
The vh1 Monsoon Sizzler Fest is on and to be very frank, I never really enjoyed a sizzler as much as I did the evening I was invited for the review. The hot piping menu includes exotic sizzlers with traditional flavours and spices served with smokey veggies. What better way to indulge and warm up your appetite during the monsoons, right?
As much as the menu was distinctively unique, I noticed the vegetarians hardly have a choice except for the Grilled Cottage Cheese & Pepper Steak (with roasted pimento coulis) and the Corn, Potato & Jalapeno Steak (with basil pesto sauce). On the other hand, the choice of meats whether its chicken, red meat or seafood options, along with a variety of preparation styles is definitely a delectable treat for the non vegetarians out there.

Corn, Potato & Jalapeno Steak (with basil pesto sauce) |
My friend being a vegetarian didn’t really have too many choices so he decided to have the Corn, Potato and Jalapeno Steak (with basil pesto sauce). Pesto is one of my favourite sauces and despite the sizzler being vegetarian, I savoured the flavour. The steak patty was a bit on the dry side but the sauce made up for it. In fact, the accompanied vegetables tasted fantastic! The perfect, smokey aftertaste made it memorable.
PS: the mashed potatoes was an add-on and I’m glad we made the right choice because it was genuinely one of the best mashed potatoes I’ve binged on in a long long time!

Scallops and Prawn Skewers in Sambal Oelek |
I had a tough time in deciding the sizzler of my choice as they have an extensive menu for the meat lovers. Finally I went in for the Scallops and Prawn Skewers in Sambal Oelek and boy was I glad!
As mentioned previously, I’ve always had comparatively decent sizzler experiences but this one sizzled it’s way into my heart for all the right reasons.
1st being the portion size was just right for one person.
2nd being the amount of vegetables was just right and did not overpower the meaty delights on my platter.
The prawns and scallops were not overdone making every bite succulent and flavoury.
This is one sizzler I savoured and how… from the pasta till the last roasted potato on my platter.

For desserts, there was the very interesting Pizookie – a cookie as a base, made with white chocolate and macadamia nuts and served in a sizzling format, with vanilla ice cream.
Being someone who isn’t fond of nuts as a part of my meals, this dessert did nothing for me. But I am pretty sure it is bound to be an absolute hit among the nut lovers and the highly accepting and experimental foodie.
