Hey Potpourriers!
Winter has come and I’m back with a new post consisting of some soulful winter special signature bowls that will satiate your winter appetite! Nobody does fun Asian food better than Mamagoto, and they continue to do it right with a Season’s Flavour menu consisting of 5 new bowl preparations.
Wholesome portions and unique combinations come together as a part of this limited edition menu. Whether you’re seeking some Japanese comfort food in the name of warm miso soup or a spicy rendition of a Chinese bowl, they’ve got Bangkok and Thailand covered as well with irresistible recipes.
What we tried:
Smoky BBQ Pork Belly Bowl | Rs. 799
Two robata style skewers of pork belly with leeks, barbecue sauce served with sticky fried rice, pok choy and baby corn stir fry, finished with a double fried egg + Asian pickles. Honestly, I don’t think I’ve savored sticky rice as much, ever. A very simple dish, but put together with a scintillating combination of sauces and textures, this makes for an easy favourite for most foodies. Pork belly fans are in for a treat with this!

Shinjuku Miso Bowl 2.0 | Rs. 549/699
To have an acquired taste is essential to enjoy this one of a kind preparation. Traditional Japanese miso soup with soba noodles soaked overnight in broth, premium silken tofu and sea weed served with vegetable or prawn tempura and a side of gomai salad. Personally, I found the flavor a little too overpowering but hey, if you’re a fan of seaweed, this one’s a must try! Also, the prawn tempura was beautifully crisp and totally worth indulging in.

Thai Army Meal In A Bowl | Rs.499/549/699
One of our favourites of the night, we loved this preparation solely for it’s homely yet exotic flavours. The beautiful aroma of lemon grass in reduced coconut milk caught our attention and this soupy delight with rice noodles became tasteful with every bite. Sticks of BBQ vegetables, chicken or prawns add the the experience. The lemon grass flavour may seem a bit overpowering to some who aren’t used to it, but I enjoyed it nevertheless.

What we didn’t try but you surely could:
Straight Up Beans | Rs. 199
Long beans stir fried with Chinese garlic, red chilies and yellow bean paste. A basic preparation but with a twist… Not sure what that is, but I was told it’s quite something.

Hot China Bowl | Rs.499/549
Glass noodles in a home style broth of red chillies, schezwan pepper, green beans, sesame seeds and sliced chicken or vegetables along with chicken or vegetarian pan fried street momos and prawn crackers + Asian pickles. With a description like that, who wouldn’t succumb to temptation, right?

Spicy Chicken Bangkok Bowl | Rs. 519
Apparently a lot like ‘Bai ka pao’, they replace the pork with minced chicken, alongside Thai spices and herbs over rice. Sounds good and looks equally tempting right? Let me know if and when you try it out!

So it’s also the season to be jolly and what better way to celebrate than to shake up your own cocktails and drink them like shots!? The bar comes to your table so you get the opportunity to have a hands-on experience like that of a bartender. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’ve always wanted to shake up a drink for myself… I got my chance a couple of nights ago and it was fun!

Our cocktails in shakers alongside fresh garnish and shot glasses |
Go ahead and play with your drinks as one gets an opportunity to choose and customize their shakers and flavours. The menu consists of Red Currant Whiskey Sour, Vojito (Vodka instead of rum and has a hint of green chilly to unleash the hot factor) Dark Rum Winter Mojito, Passion Fruit Rum/Lime Mix and Green Apple Vodka Shaker, priced between Rs. 299-499. We tried the Passion Fruit Rum/Lime Mix and the Green Apple Vodka Shaker which were both thoroughly enjoyable and ideal winter concoctions.
Now that you know what my experience was, maybe you could give it a shot? Do share the same with me as I’d love to know.
Cheers to The Good Life and the festive season! 🙂
