I’ve never really written a full fledged post on a movie watching experience, but there’s always a first, right? So when I was invited for a special screening of Talvar, I already knew I wasn’t going to miss it for anything. Having heard and read enough and more about the disturbingly real-life case, Talvar instantly became a priority on my movies-to-watch list.
A flurry of emotions is what you can expect as you watch Talvar. The moment of truth is hidden somewhere, in so many undeniably painful years of misery. Inspired by the true story of Aarushi’s murder case, Talvar will leave you with innumerable questions… Not just in your mind, but also in your heart. Here are 5 reasons why you shouldn’t miss it.
1. If you haven’t been following the original Aarushi Talwar and Hemraj murder mystery news and the controversies surrounding this Noida double murder case, then this will be a good start. It was one hell of a messy and deeply disturbing set of events that set off a story worth telling.
2. The casting couldn’t be better. Watch Irrfan Khan play the no nonsense cop with a streak of humour, Konkona Sen Sharma and Neeraj Kabi as the infamous parents that everyone judged and Sumit Gulati for his representation of Kanhaiya and the typical mentality he possesses.
PS. Don’t you guys think a stellar actor like Neeraj Kabi deserves to get more attention? Nobody spoke about his outstanding performance in Detective Byomkesh Bakshy, where I genuinely thought he overshadowed Sushant Singh Rajput. Although personally, I would’ve loved to see more of him in Talvar, Neeraj Kabi delivers well as Dr. Ramesh Tandon – the complex father to a brutally murdered daughter.
3. Some super editing is what kept me hooked. Okay, so I’m not a film critic, but I understand good editing when I experience it. The movie didn’t feel like a drag despite the repetitive and limited nature of the controversial case.
4. As much as this may or may not be considered a “spoiler”, there is NO item number in Talvar. Personally, that’s a major win for me as the tight script by Vishal Bhardwaj and fine direction by Meghna Gulzar definitely doesn’t “need it”.
5. If you like murder mysteries with a twisted psychological yet corruptive approach, Talvar is your scene. In the end, it’s a thought-provoking and a strong film that’s bound to make you question almost everything that makes up our country’s law + order and the people who represent it.
