Another Sunday, another fun brunch scenes along with an exciting cake mixing session and this one’s new – grape stomping… and this time, it was at one of my favourite properties in this city – St. Regis, Mumbai.
I was invited to be a part of this wonderful Sunday afternoon and I got to say, the setup was picture perfect! With colourful canopies and kiosks with wine, cheese and all things fancy, it’s ideal to make your week end on a high and funfilled note.
Aprons in place, chef’s hats on and gloves to get our hands dirty as we mixed all that booze with dryfruits, tooty-frooty and more, it was yet another fabulous experience to be a part of. PS. If you’ve read my Novotel brunch + cake mixing post, you’ll know what I mean.
But of course, I must talk a little more about the grape stomping experience. If you’re new to the concept, here’s how Google describes it best – “Grape-stomping (also known as pigeage) is part of method of maceration used in traditional winemaking. Rather than using a wine press or other mechanised method, grapes were crushed by having barefoot participants repeatedly stomp on them in vats to release their juices and begin fermentation.”
…And that’s exactly what we did. Feeling the texture of crushed grapes under your feet is definitely relaxing and quite therapeutic in my opinion. A really fanciful way to get a pedicure too! Haha…
And then it was time to clean up and head to Seven Kitchens for brunch. It was already quite crowded when we got there (was about 1:45-2pm) and the spread was pretty darn extensive… as expected. A cool LIVE band setup definitely added to the chilled out mood and gave the patrons something to enjoy while they made it a Sunday to remember…
From all the sections I glanced through before I picked up my plate to get some food, I noticed a seafood section which looked dynamic enough to get my mother – a pure vegetarian to take a picture of. LOL.
Then there was the international meats section, the massive salad counter, dimsum carts – separate ones for vegetarian and non-vegetarians, which I think was quite thoughtful.
A stand alone kiosk on the other side was the pasta counter. They also have wood-fire oven personal sized pizzas that you can customise as per your preferences and it’ll be served to you fresh and piping hot on your table.
PS. Just make note of your table number before you place your orders to make it easier for the staff that is assisting you.
If you’re a fan of sushi like me, then they have a dedicated counter just for that too. Again, if you’ve read my Novotel brunch + cake mixing post, you’d know how much I missed having some sushi there. Nevertheless, the craving was deactivated courtesy the Seven Kitchens brunch and I have no complaints.
They also have a tempura section so if you like them fried to perfection, go for it! Unfortunately, my order never reached my table and I’m not sure who to blame. Maybe it was a really packed house and the management was overwhelmed… Can’t say for sure. But anyway, I made a hearty meal of the rest.
From New Zealand lamb to Asian pork chops, it’s meat haven for all the world foodies (I hate the term but it kinda fits the spot here) out there who aren’t sceptics about trying new flavours.
I ordered for a fruit punch which although had too much ice tasted really good. One of the most refreshing (non-alcoholic) beverages I’ve had in a long time.
In the end, I knew I was full but hey, how can you not end your meal without some dessert, right? So here I was, picking the ones that caught my eye. Special mention to the really unusual variety of ice cream flavours they have to offer. I tried the banana and caramel one and mum gave the banana and strawberry a shot. Both were incredibly good! The caramel one is a tad bit too sweet so if you like it like that, go for it. The classic chocolate cake was perfectly moist and made for the perfect end to my brunch…
I realised with the number of brunch posts I’m covering on the blog, it won’t come as a surprise if I manage to convert some of you into brunch enthusiasts like me. It’s definitely a very unique life goal for me! 😉
PS. The weekend is here. Make your Sunday worth it?
Cheers!
